Wiking

Friedrich Karl Peltzer was born in Berlin on 5 February 1903. As the son of an officer in the Imperial Navy, he came into contact with seafaring at a very early age. As early as 1930, he was driven by the business idea of casting model ships from moulds. Initially, this was only a sideline, as he was a publisher, producing the magazine ‘Das Tier’. The year 1932 marked a turning point in his career. According to his own account, this was the year he began professional model-making. Shortly afterwards, Peltzer sold his magazine and book publishing business and concentrated on model making. It was to be the path to success: Friedrich Karl Peltzer’s hobby – he usually signed his work as ‘Fritz Peltzer’ – developed into a profession – Wiking model making was launched. WIKING has been manufacturing in Poland since 1986. In 2014, the foundation stone was laid for a new, state-of-the-art production facility. Today, Wiking manufactures in Germany, Poland and China, partly through a division of labour. We have been working together for decades and have already been able to produce many special models and special series with Wiking.
